The cornerstone of Scott Winer Productions, the Production Department is responsible for the planning, development and execution of original programming. The department was founded by Scott Winer, who served as Producer, Director and Coordinating Director before taking over the duties of Executive Producer in 2008.

Scott Winer Productions was first adopted as the department's name in 2000, which was soon followed by 8H Productions, the producing group for the award-winning documentary, Inside the Game and two larger-scale music/variety programs.

In 2001, Winer founded Scott Winer Films, under which he directed several short films and the follow-up documentary, Inside the Game II.

Winer then revived SWP in 2003, developing STV for high school basketball coverage, which received two honors from the Foundation of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. As SWPnet in 2004, Winer led the production teams for the two-time award-winning variety show On'CUSE and KUJH's Jayhawk Sports Talk.

In 2008, Scott Winer Productions was rebranded and restructured into four distinct divisions: the SWP Production Department, SWPnet, SWP Creative and SWP Radio.

The Production Department led the way with SWP's latest endeavor, Mildly Off the Wall an independent sketch-comedy show based in Lawrence, Kansas. The program's release was complemented by online video distribution through SWPnet and website design by SWP Creative.
